Paralyzed

hopeI seem to be on a poetry kick lately!  This one is not necessarily about a man who is physically paralyzed, but I was inspired to write this while thinking about the struggle between hope and fear and what fear can keep us from or what giving into our hope could lead us to.  Enjoy.

The paralyzed man
He hears a melody
Only in his heart he'll dance
In echoes of deep memory
His mind is alive
Vivid and true
His lips cannot laugh
His feet cannot move
And when he loves
It's more like a dream
Where tears are usually salty
His are bitter sweet
No woman will feel
His touch down her spine
No woman shall hear,
"Beloved, you are mine."
But if you're attentive,
Patient and slow
You'll see in his eyes
A twinkle and glow
The paralyzed man
He cannot do much
But the paralyzed man
Still hopes for love
